조립식 가구 전문점, 이케아/아이키아 (IEKA)

미국에 갓 정착한 유학생 부부들이 가장 많이 사용하는 이케아 가구 (미국에서는 '아이키아'라고 발음해요)는 모델 출신 배우인 신디 크로포드가 비즈니스 파트너로 있는 룸스 투 고 (Rooms To Go)와 함께 젊은층한테 인기가 많아요. 이케아 가구는 1940년대 스웨덴의 잉바르 캄프라드가 창업한 가구 및 생활 소품 판매 전문점으로 세계 28개국에 325개 이상의 매장이 있다고 하네요. 외관 자체도 스웨덴 국기색인 파란색과 노란색을 사용하고 매장 내에 전시된 가구 이름도 스웨덴어로 소개할 만큼 상당히 스웨덴 색채가 강한 가구 전문점이라고 할 수 있습니다. 또한, 스웨덴인들이 즐겨 먹은 생선 통조림이나 미트볼 등의 냉동식품도 판매하고, 한 끼 식사를 해결할 수 있는 푸드코드, 아이들이 뛰어놀 수 있는 간이 놀이터도 있어서 주말이면 가족 단위의 손님들을 많이 볼 수 있어요. 

가구 자체는 원목 가구로 만들어져서 튼튼한 편이고, 인기가 많은 빌리 (Billy) 책장의 경우 세금 포함 50불 대 가격으로 살 수 있어 고객들의 반응이 좋다고 하네요. DIY가 콘셉트긴 하나 조립 서비스를 원하는 고객을 위해 유료 조립 서비스 (89불 이상, 가구에 따라 다름)와 배달서비스(99불 부터 시작, 지역에 따라 다름)도 제공하기도 해요. 디자인은 우리나라 한샘 가구처럼 단순하나 가격은 한샘에 비해서 저렴한 편이에요.

Ikea Furniture, founded in the 1940s by Inbar Camprad, Sweden, specializes in selling furniture and household goods, with more than 325 stores in 28 countries around the world. It is very popular with young people like students and newly settled couples as much as "Rooms to Go" where a famous model, Cindy Crawford is a business partner. The exterior of the furniture store uses the colors of the Swedish flag, blue and yellow, and the furniture name displayed in the store is in Swedish. Also, there is a food court for selling frozen foods such as canned fish or meatballs that Swedish people enjoy, and a quick playground for kids, so you can see a lot of family customers on weekends.

 

The furniture itself is made of solid wood and sturdy, and the popular Billy bookcase is priced at $50 including tax, which is good for customers. Although DIY is a concept, it also offers paid assembly services (plus $89 and more depending on furniture) and delivery services (starting from $99, depending on location). 

 

Next to the building, there are the flag of Sweden, the United States, and Texas. There is a locker inside for convenient shopping for customers. Assembled furniture is displayed in the store and there is a section that sells canned, frozen, etc., in front of the counter.
